Coming Out Of The Closet!!!

Kevin Meaney was the first comic to star at the Cabaret Theatre at Mohegan Sun in a Treehouse Comedy Production.

In this Critics on the Aisle article Late February Volume 37, Issue 4 Kevin talks about being gay and how he includes it in his act.  He sings an imaginary duet between Johnny Mathis and Ethel Merman...and at the end he turns to the audience and says "I know what you're saying.....'this guy must be GAY!'" and then he lets them know he really is.

He says that it is usually a "so what" moment.

Too early for Rich Vos!

The reason why this December 31st, 2009 article from GO Magazine is titled Cranky Comic is because of a little suggestion Rich made to Erik Ofgang, writer for GO.  "I suggest you learn not to interview people too early, because they could be cranky..."

He got to go to the bathroom, but then was sent to the office and waiting for him was a note to take home to his parents!!

Who would have thought...what he used to get in trouble for, he now makes a living off!!

Entertainment Editor Linda Tuccio-Koonz of the Danbury News Times did a great job with what special comedy news correspondent Brad Axelrod wrote for the paper. Let's face it, she only had what she did to work with.

Connecticut talent Anne Kissel, who is currently starring in the TV Network premiere of "The Next Best Thing" featuring America's most talented impersonators recently got some heated press material from her appearances. Her pinpoint impersonation of Roseanne led television judge Jeffrey Ross to say " Awesome, perfect, this is what this show is all about" after Anne's spot.

To the left is a front page article that ran on Roseanne...

I mean Anne. In the Connecticut Post on June 12th, 2007. Thanks to TV reporter Amanda Cuda at the Post for covering it. To the right Hometown Publications did a piece that ran on the front page of the Huntington Herald June 13th, 2007

And the piece was so timely and interesting and funny it ran two pages. See above. Good Luck Anne and continued success on the show and otherwise

Danbury's newest weekly entertainment periodical Hat City Entertainment reviewed the Dom Irrera show. Thank you and good luck to editor Peter Walrath and additional thanks to Jess Karjanis for a great feature in the Apr-May 2007 issue. Here are a couple of quotes: "The New Sorrento was so packed for a recent Treehouse Comedy show that headliner Dom Irrera joked, " In case of a fire, drink-up -                                                              there's no way we're getting out of here."

"..The audience barley stopped laughing long enough to sip their espresso martinis.  Even opening acts Rick Roberts and Vincent McElhone were very funny.."

Anytime you watch a Dom Irrera show you're reminded why Comedy Central called him "..One of the 100 Greatest Stand-ups of All-time.." The headline was right - Talented Comic Dom Irrera makes return to Treehouse

Twenty-five plus years later he's still writing new, still being creative, original, and let's not forget hysterical Funny. This article ran on the Friday before his Trumbull and Danbury dates. Also, a very nice job also by both Darryl Knight and Vincent McElhone. It was fun watching both of them watching Dom work and dieing of laughter as they admired the work. Their work as admirable as well.

Irrera said:  "He's looking forward to coming back to the Treehouse. It's a blast to come back." 3/16//07 ".. Like many famous comics over the years including Rodney Dangerfield, Jeff Foxworthy, and Jerry Seinfeld, Dom Irrera can trace his roots back to Treehouse Comedy Productions, which has been synonymous with comedy in Connecticut for over 20 years.." Thank you to Entertainment Editor Linda Tuccio-Koonz for deeming the appearance newsworthy enough along with reporter Andrea Valluzzo.

March 2nd, 2007 the Danbury News Times supported our Saturday night show that weekend starring Kevin Downey Jr., Sandy Mark, and Jane Condon. The comedy commentary on each act was engaging, insightful, and fun.

Whom have a passion and appreciation for providing the best comedy talent available in a professional enviornment and committed to providing good guest service to Treehouse comedy patrons.

John Ivarone has a passion for comedy. He tracked Brad Axelrod and the Treehouse down through management at Mirragio's in Yorktown Heights, NY. A Treehouse account for 5 years and John's hometown.

John came up to a Treehouse Comedy Showcase and earned some weekend work. He did Danbury and then got Mirragio's on June 7th 2006, where he wrestled up some press for himself. Hometown boy did good. Keep the passion John!

The News-Times helped support Danbury native Comic/Hypnotist Dan LaRosa in his Treehouse Comedy Club debut June 9th, 2006. This show not only sold-out hit was a true HOOT. What a great change-of-pace performance. Reporter Erik Ofgang's opening line was great:      "Dan LaRosa is a hypnotist that definitely won't make you sleepy"

Jackie Martling returns. Wow, the Joke Man didn't disappoint. Two sold-out shows in Danbury and Trumbull and funny with a capital "F". How can you not get good press when you have one of the "100 greatest stand-ups of all times?"  Thanks to the Waterbury Republican, The Connecticut Post and Voices for the outstanding press on these Dom Irrera dates in mid January 2006. Thanks also to Dom and the Treehouse guests that supported those two weekday sell-outs.

Danbury News Time Article January 27th, 2006 written by the very well-written Jody Minalgo. We think she was swooned by the Joe Matarese dashing good looks.........

Or was it the impressive list of Matarese TV credits? The Carson Daly Show, The Late Late Show, MTV'S Spring Break and the Jim Breuer Show and Last Comic Standing. Just to mention the lion's share.

Nice job with the interview and on stage.

Home-boy-Monroe Ct native Chris DuBail did this hometown boy does good interview for the Danbury News Time Dec 16th, 2005. After a Daniel Street/Treehouse Comedy Showcase spot, Chris earned this spot. And boy did he deliver.

When the closing act was way late for his spot. Chris covered 50 minutes as the feature. Yes, he got more money from the club and the headliner.

He also did a nice job on a WPLR live-location spot.

Tony Liberati started getting weekend work through an audition spot at Daniel Street for our Open Mic Night which he deservedly earned.

In his first weekend appearance not only did he do a nice job on stage, we wrestled up a local boy does well feature in the Danbury News Time in December 2005. He did do well and got more dates. That Weekday Showcase Works.

Treehouse owner Brad Axelrod's niece Davida wrote a great letter that was featured in Parade Magazine on September 11th, 2005. Great Job Davida. Uncle Brad is very proud. That's her beautiful picture at the top of the inset below Olivia Newtown-John. Very well written.

Put it your scrapbook for future reference. Colleges will love it!

Play Magazine cover story with cover boy Billy Winn July 27th 2005. WPLR host and star of Daniel Street's Treehouse Comedy Showcase and Open Mike Nite Billy Winn grabbed plenty on ink in this one.

Jane Rushmore spent plenty of time at Daniel Street in preparation for this article. Then another two hours interviewing Billy and Treehouse head honcho Brad Axelrod. Special thanks to her and also Editor Jon Cooper.

"He's (Brad) a talent agency and he's his own promotions and advertising department as well.  He's also managed restaurants so he knows what to expect of the food and service side of things.  Then there's the aesthetics - he makes sure the lighting, the sound the staging and the table layout add to the show rather than distract from them."

The Milford Mirror Thursday July 21st 2005

Billy Winn, emcee for the evening, said, "This place is going to work because Brad's doing it," referring to Brad Axelrod of the Treehouse Comedy Club in Westport.

Before the blue collar guy had a cast of blue collar guys, Jeff Foxworthy was the 1990 Comic of the Year as voted by the American Comedy Awards. He was killer funny then, without, Bill Engvall and Larry the Cable Guy. Yes, we had Engvall too after he won the same award a few years later.

Our first Seinfeld date got a little press back in 1986 by the Bridgeport Post. Larry David attended one of the eight shows Jerry did that week and told Treehouse owner, Brad Axelrod back then Jerry had six hours worth of material. I guess Jerry and Larry parlayed that material into a couple sheckles for their 1991 fall replacement show "Seinfeld".

Check-out the autograph in the middle of the article. You might have to look hard.
